I've always believed we need to return and begin again from pre-Income Tax days, when Congress suddenly got rich. Reduced the fed bureaucracy to bare bones
I would be happy with that, but the reality was this: think of a list of ALL the products you buy. Then think of Congress, every 2 years, having to go through that list and add tariffs to every single item. Then think of the lobbying over freakin' iPhones, or sneakers, or ceramics, or soup, or cheese---millions of battles. It simply won't happen. The other thing the U.S. lived on forever was land sales. That won't happen either, as the gubment owns 1/3 of the land in the U.S., but much of that is really unusable. It is a matter of convenience as much as anything.
I pre-ordered and am looking forward to getting my copy.
