Two Rutabaga Tales
Biteme and the DemoKKKrats can go one of two directions.
After yesterday’s bizarre, ranting, then at times, halting speech that looked like a Disney animatronics short-circuited, it is highly unlikely that Biteme’s approvals will rise. Conversely, it is more likely they will decline even more.
Currently pollster Robert Cahaley of Trafalgar Group, one of the two or three most accurate pollsters in the last five years, has the Rutabaga at 38% approval, with only 71% of DemoKKKrats approving of him. Always keep in mind MOE, or margin of error, which could mean he is as low as 34-35%. (Obviously he could also be around 40%).
One stream of thought among the Twitterverse and other analysists is that the DemoKKKrats have bottomed out; that they will see moderate losses in 2022; and basically that things can’t get worse.
Biteme: Hold muh Geritol.
I think things can (and will) get much worse. Here are just a few reasons why:
*Russia/Ukraine Yesterday in his massive flop of a press conference, Biteme said that a little incursion wasn’t a bad thing, giving the green light to Pootie-poot to launch an invasion. I’m sure the Rutabaga just got confused. After all, “incursion” and “invasion” both start with “i”. How much the U.S. is dragged into this conflict will remain undertermined for a while, but it’s hard to imagine any scenario in which the U.S. does not lose lives over a conflict Biteme brought on.
*Inflation No, this isn’t going away. It will either continue a slow climb (bad for Biteme) or accelerate into incredibly serious levels (terrible for anyone in power). he not only has no plan to deal with this—-as Reagan did when he and Tall Paul Volcker applied the brakes to monetary expansion and suffered a recession in 1981-2—-but he doesn’t even believe inflation actually exists.
*The China Virus is definitely winding down, but there will still be infections and deaths and these are on Biteme’s hands. This can only further harm DemoKKKrats’ image.
*Race Hate and Education By calling all Americans who disagreed with the “Do-We-Cheat-Em-And-How” Voting Rights Act “Bull Connor” or “George Wallace” (both of whom were, ahem, DemoKKKrats, Biteme has declared war on half of America. This is the kind of stuff that permanently alienates independents—-just one more reason I don’t think they will ever come back to him.
For these, and other reasons, I do not think Biteme’s poll numbers have bottomed out. I think they are quite capable of descending into the 20s by 2024. How low will they get by 2022? I think low enough to cause a shift of 35-45 House seats.
