All the drama about the pending/potential/alleged “Trump indictment” that blew up over the weekend like a sack full of over-toasted chicken nuggets led to new offensives by the DeSantis trolls and new pushback by Trumplicans. Assessing the groups, it appears that their arguments miss one key reality here.
The two are not equal in the eyes of the Deep State, nor do generic, broad criticisms of the federal institutions capture what’s really happening.
For example, Governor Ron DeSantis made a comment about the FBI and other elements of the Deep State (but carefully did not use that term, for reasons I will discuss in a moment) in which he said that rogue elements “must be held accountable.” That statement concerned me greatly. It revealed a profound lack of appreciation as to what has happened in D.C. and who actually comprises the Deep State.
Years into the Trump “muh Russia” probe talk show host Sean Hannity insisted that there were “a few bad apples” in the FBI leadership, but that the rank-and-file were solid people. If anything disproved that statement more, it was the total absence of any whistleblowers from the FBI or DOJ to come forward and renounce what was happening, giving examples and specifics. The sound of silence about the “Muh Russia” excesses was deafening. In the first two years of the probe, not one notable agent or administrator came forward to repudiate or expose the criminal effort to smear and even jail President Trump.
No, the FBI doesn’t have a few “bad apples.” The whole FBI apple tree is decayed, evil, and produces poisonous fruit—-not once, but in almost every instance when it is involved in “investigating” anything.
The same with the CIA. The same with the DOJ, especially under the demonic direction of Grand Moff Garland and the Rutabaga.
There are no “good guys” pushing back” in DC, because there aren’t any “good guys” there to push back. To pledge to “hold accountable” people within an institution that is totally corrupt is essentially a pledge to do nothing whatsoever about the institution itself! And that reflects extremely poorly on DeSantis. It suggests he doesn’t even know what he’s fighting—-if, indeed, he is fighting the Deep State (since he won’t say its name).
In other words, the comment reflects a world view of a “conservative” who nevertheless has bought entirely into the RINO/Liberal playbook. It’s the same as those in Congress who rail about a balanced budget without having any desire to address the national debt.
Words mean things. Using the term “Deep State” conveys that someone understands that there is a massive, structurally powerful edifice of institutional and bureaucratic resistance to fixing anything!
It’s also interesting that DeSantis, in his criticism of Manhattan DA Alvin (Boast and) Bragg, attacked him for weaponizing the department (correct) without acknowledging what it was weaponized for. It had nothing to do with DeSantis, or with any citizen of Florida except one: President Donald Trump.
Just as the Coalitions in Europe declared war on one man, Napoleon, so too the Deep State at this moment is consumed by only one man: Donald Trump. For DeSantis to avoid not only mentioning Trump’s name but apparently failing to grasp the dynamic at work—-that the entire Deep State is seeking to destroy him—-creates serious questions about DeSantis’s judgment. It seems he fears admitting the reality of Trump’s persecution so much that hc can’t proclaim it, lest it elevate Trump electorally. (And it might just do that). But to pretend that the investigations, the grand juries, including one in Georgia, the Congressional Patriot Day (J6) committee were not all about one man is absurd. That’s all they were about.
Sure, Botoxic and her goblin allies hoped to terrify MAGA supporters by making examples out of several Patriot Day protesters by throwing them in jail, but their focus is and has always been President Trump.
Even if a Republican prefers DeSantis in the primary, it is foolish and short sighted not to assess this for what it is, a war on Trump. To do so demands a follow-up question: why not a war on DeSantis?
The answer was provided by the great Rush Limbaugh: “They will always tell you whom they fear.”
