Those racist bike helmets
Won't it be ironic if "racism" brings about many of the changes Libertarians wanted for years?
The city of New Beirut, also known as Seattle, has just discovered that homeless and "da po" are getting more bike citations than everyone else. This is due to bike helmet laws. “The science” found that bike helmets reduced the risk of serious head injuries by 70%. Instantly the good-hearted fascists imposed bike helmet laws. Gotta protect the people from themselves, ya know.
Except now data shows “racist and discriminatory enforcement” by the po-po. Why? Well, of course because “people of color” and the homeless can’t afford bike helmets. You know—-it’s that or the iPhone 17 or the Air Jordans. Choices, choices.
So the dicknipples at Public Health declared racism a "public health crisis" an eliminated the bike helmet laws.
This is something that Libertarians fought against, just as they fought against mandatory seat belt and motorcycle helmet laws. (Personally, I wear a seat belt, I would pay for seat belts in a new car if I could ever in my life again afford a new car; and if I biked, I would wear a helmet, because my brain damage is already extreme as Mrs LS always tells me.)
Exactly 40 years ago, the great Walter E. Williams published his book The State Against Blacks where he argued that laws such as hair stylist/salon regulations were racist in their effect because they elevated credentialism over talent and hard work. Existing hair stylists, he noted, were all for such laws as they made it harder to enter the business and compete. He found a host of other such laws, all of which worked to the detriment of minorities in favor of “safety.”
What is most ironic is that this little crack in the iceberg comes even as DemoKKKrat cities and states are doubling down on makiopathic regulations. The maskies have become a woke symbol: “I care.” They are for the most part a better indicator of voting preference than party ID. Yet there remains little medical or scientific evidence for wearing a mask, especially under the conditions most people use them. If you are a maskiopath, you might want to consider the requirements for the proper use of the N-95. I guarantee you are not using it correctly, and therefore have received NO value from it. Maskies have become the new “pink ribbons” showing “concern” over breast cancer.
Which once again shows how far ahead the great Rush Limbaugh was with his concern ribbons.
