Lemme 'splain two dynamics
namely the "transformation" of conservative pundits and the Left's view of Russia
Many conservatives are shocked and surprised by the fact that one-time so-called “conservative” pundits such as Jonah Goldberg (Goldburger), David French (Frenchfry), Bill Kristol (Broken Kristol), and Max Boot (Bootless) among others, have become full-throated leftists in advocating for policies that they supposedly have always opposed, or opposing policies they supposedly always embraced.
Here’s what happened.
These people were never, ever conservatives. Rather, they all saw an opening in the news shows, the talk circuit, and especially in the social circles, to “talk conservative/write conservative” and thereby be accepted. But it was all done with the understanding that the actual policies they claimed to embrace would never, ever be enacted. Rather, they could appear to espouse the conservative position with full knowledge that it was an intellectual game. At the end of the cocktail party, they could laugh with their liberal friends, “Of course we know that will never happen.” Thus they were still accepted in the circles.
Once Trump came in, all that ended, because Trump actually did things. He followed through and enacted the policies they claimed to support. So they used their purported hatred of Trump, the man, to begin attacking his policies—-which they had supported a year earlier.
They were always frauds. He exposed them, as he exposed so many.
Now, on Russia: it is important to understand that the left loved the Soviet Union, because after all they were fellow communists. (I know, lefties here will never say they are “communists” even though they support everything commies do). Once the Soviet Union fell and became a (loosely speaking) “democracy,” the new state of Russia was an evil capitalist country like the USA. And irony of ironies, even though Vladimir Putin was a KGB agent, as president of a non-communist Russia, he became public enemy #2 behind Trump!!
They hate Russia because it is no longer communist, and more important, because its collapse as a communist state was the biggest failure to date of a communist society in history.
